The Casualties: Die Hards (2001, Side 1 Dummy)

by Greg Brady le Hobo, Just happy to be Back In Black
from Vanguard Party 2.1 (October 2002)

Formed in the early ninties to bring punk back to its roots, circa ’77, this band has been putting out records for a little over a decade and show no signs of slowing down. Though this album is produced to a higher degree than the others it still contains its gutteral elements. From the moment that “Nightmares” starts to the second that “Made in NYC” (A tribute to the Ramones) ends it doesn’t slow down. Clocking in at just over a half hour (31:13) for 13 songs, it averages less than two and a half minutes each.

Crusties yes, most people NO. If you don’t like this album, you probably weren’t meant to like. Yes, they do go out of their way to alienate certain groups and mesh with others. These self-proclaimed “Spikey haired drunk Punx” work for me, but consider baby-steps before launching from N’sync to Casualties. No wait hurt yourself for liking N’Sync then hurt them for existing then do buy the Casualties. Highlights include “Made in NYC”, “Nightmares”, “City Council”, and “We’re the Punks”.
